Grande Prairie, Alberta is a natural oasis, filled with plenty of green space for visitors to enjoy. Whether you prefer hiking, fishing, or golfing, there is an outdoor activity for every type of traveller in Grande Prairie. Keep reading to discover more about our favourite hikes, fishing locales, and golf courses in the area.

Hiking

Grande Prairie is home to some of the best hiking trails in the region, thanks to the many parks we have here. Muskoseepi Park is great for a low-key hike and family picnic, while Shutter Flats Provincial Recreation Area has everything from hiking trails and campsites to kayaking and cycling. O’Briens Provincial Park is another popular spot for a hike. Finally, be sure to visit Saskatoon Island Provincial Park located 15 minutes west of Grande Prairie. This picturesque park sits on the shores of Lake Saskatoon and is a wildlife refuge, so remember to bring your binoculars with you.

Golfing

Golfing is a popular pastime in Grande Prairie, which is why there are so many pristine golf courses in the area. The top three golf courses in Grande Prairie are The Dunes Golf & Winter Club, Grande Prairie Golf & Country Club, and Bear Creek Golf Club. All three courses are public, and they have clubhouses, golfing lessons, and both 9-hole and 18-hole courses available.

Fishing

Fishing is a must while in Grande Prairie. There are lots of scenic lakes and rivers to enjoy an afternoon out on the water in and around Grande Prairie. Crystal Lake is right in town and is home to walleye, whitefish, perch, and rainbow trout. Moonshine Lake is another great spot for rainbow trout, as are Kakut Lake and East Dollar Lake. A bit farther away is Wapiti River, where you can find bull trout, walleye, pike, and grayling.
